| Bela – You just wouldn’t understand |

Bela. The character so many fans hate. The character so many fans love to hate. The character so many others love. This article belongs to the latter. To the part of the fandom which seems to be in a minority. But is it? Bela – You just wouldn’t understand By: lyric. You wouldn’t understand. Or maybe you would. Maybe you don’t really care. But maybe you do. Because it seems like everyone has something to say when it comes to Bela. I love Bela. I want to say that I don’t care if fans think, as BuddyTV article has put it, that the series should ditch the girls, but I do. Love is funny that way. I was intrigued by the two new characters, ever since all Hell broke loose in the summer, and with the casting of Lauren Cohan I found myself leaning toward the character of Bela even before we saw her. And no, I hadn’t heard of Lauren Cohan prior to her being cast in Supernatural. The character just captivated me. I’m aware that she’s there to serve a purpose, but I don’t care. To me she became more than just a means to an end. I want to know more about her, want to see more of her and really wouldn’t mind seeing her with Dean. Loving Bela doesn’t take a thing away from loving Dean and Sam: from knowing, and loving, the series being about them. Wanting her to have a romantic relationship with Dean is by no means aiming to hurt the relationship between the brothers. What Dean and Sam have is the core of Supernatural. I don’t think there is one Supernatural fan out there who would question that. I love the character because she is so different from what we have come to know on the series. In a show where everyone has to pick sides, only to find out that the boundaries are not that clear, we have a character that doesn’t play by the rules. I love her because she rarely lies. Because her words, as harsh as they sometimes are, are right on the spot. Because she is unpredictable. I love her because she is an independent woman playing in a world that is dominated by men. And she does it without backing down. She sometimes causes Dean and Sam to look less than… capable? So what! This is Supernatural, not Supermen. If anything, it reminds us that they are only human. I love her because something made her the way she is. Because she carries a secret, and has no one to share it with. Because they wouldn’t understand. And I love her because Lauren Cohan does an excellent job in bringing Bela to life. To me, she was a brilliant casting choice. I don’t expect you to understand. After all, how can you explain love? You either feel it, or you don’t. I love Bela. I know I’m not alone. I hope there are a lot of us out there… and I want to believe that we are actually the majority. And a personal request: Kripke, if Bela is to be cut out of Supernatural, can you please get her her own show? To comment on the article, please click here. Want to submit an article?
